Akron

Arrests

A West Long Street man, 44, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, improper handling of a firearm, inducing panic and discharging a firearm. Police said he pulled out a handgun and fired a shot after his girlfriend tried to leave while the two were quarreling. When officers stopped his car, they found two loaded handguns.

An East Buchtel Avenue man, 30, and a Canton man, 26, were charged with receiving stolen property, assaulting a police officer, obstructing official business and possessing a counterfeit controlled substance. Police said the men led them on a chase in a vehicle stolen from an East Market Street business. The driver struck a police cruiser while trying to get away and then both men jumped out of the car and tried to run, officers said. During the arrest, officers recovered a bag of marijuana.

A Jason Avenue man, 28, was charged with burglary, breaking and entering, theft and possession of criminal tools after he allegedly tried to open a locked door on Indian Trail. Officers followed footprints and found him hiding in a garage with a bag of tools next to him. The bag contained a wallet taken from a car in the garage, police said.

A Courtleigh Drive woman, 31, was charged with felonious assault, domestic violence and using a weapon while intoxicated. Police said she and her fiance were intoxicated and quarreling Jan. 25 when she pistol-whipped his head as he was loading a gun. He suffered several cuts and one wound that was consistent with a graze wound from a bullet. Both denied that a shot was fired.

A Packard Drive man, 34, was charged with domestic violence after he allegedly dragged a woman across the ground during a quarrel.

A Jason Avenue man, 28, was charged with possessing heroin and receiving stolen property. Police reported finding heroin in his bedroom and gun holsters and a laptop computer taken in a recent burglary.

Identity theft

A Granger Road man reported Feb. 2 that he received a federal income tax form from the Oklahoma Tax Commission. He told police he never worked in Oklahoma.

Copley Township

Domestic complaint

After a night of drinking, a couple got into a fight in a moving pickup truck, police reported Feb. 1. The girlfriend struck her boyfriend and jumped from the moving truck on Jacoby Road. She was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital. Officers went to the driver’s home on Kendall Road and left instructions for him to contact police.

Coventry Township

Burglary

A Wigeon Way homeowner told police Jan. 17 that someone stole two TV sets, a computer and other items, total value $1,545.

Theft

An elderly township resident told deputies Jan. 28 that she received a call from a man saying he worked for Akron police and that her grandson had been arrested and needed $2,000 to post bond. She was told to pay with Reloadit gift cards and then call him with the numbers. When she did, the man told her she had been scammed and hung up.

Arrests

A 15th Street man, 31, was charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor Feb. 3.

A homeless man, 23, was charged with abusing a harmful intoxicant Jan. 29. Police were called to Panera Bread, 689 Howe Road, after someone spotted the man inhaling Dust Destroyer in a rest room.

Assault

A Merline Street man, 26, reported Feb. 1 that he was assaulted at the Chestnut Beer Garden, 503 Chestnut Blvd. He was treated at Western Reserve Hospital.

Identity theft

A Rexdale Avenue man told police Jan. 29 that someone used his personal information to file a federal tax return.

A Merline Street woman reported Feb. 3 that someone is using her personal information to obtain credit.

Arrests

An East Tallmadge Avenue woman was charged with shoplifting Jan. 31 from Dillard’s at Summit Mall. Her companion, a Warren man, reportedly admitted to theft but gave a false name, police said. He had two felony warrants through the Summit County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear on breaking and entering charge and burglary. Merchandise worth $1,021 was recovered.

A girl, 11, took two sports bras, total value $50, from Dillard’s in Summit Mall on Feb. 2 by concealing them under her coat. She was released to her mother.

Theft

An employee of Mary Ann Huffman Vending Inc. reported Jan. 29 that $326 was taken from two company machines on Embassy Parkway. Officials suspect a former employee who took a key without permission.

Arrests

A Canton man, 21, of Orchardale Drive Northwest, was charged with domestic violence and obstructing official business Jan. 28 after he barricaded himself and his girlfriend in her Mayfair Road apartment during a quarrel. He allegedly struggled with deputies after they forced their way through the barricade stated. He was subdued with the aid of a stun gun.

Breaking and entering

The owner of Uniontown Septic on Raber Road told investigators Jan. 29 that someone entered his business and took cash and three business checks. He said a check-cashing company alerted him that someone was trying to cash a check.

New Franklin

Arrest

A Rex Lake Drive girl, 14, was charged with domestic violence Jan. 22 after she allegedly grabbed kitchen knives and said she would kill another female in the residence, police reported.

A Greenridge Road man, 41, was charged with threatening domestic violence Feb. 1.

Springfield Township

Arrests

A Barberton man, 32, of Taylor Road, was charged with stealing $775 worth of merchandise Jan. 23 from the Giant Eagle on East Waterloo Road. Police said the man told officers he took the items because he forgot his debit card.

Domestic violence

Police were searching for an Albrecht Avenue man, 51, on a domestic violence warrant after being told he threatened to kill his girlfriend and broke their TV with his fist before fleeing.

Robbery

A Green resident told police Jan. 21 that she pulled off Canton Road to help a stopped female motorist when a man appeared, opened her car door and demanded money. The robbers fled with $700.

Theft

Three specialty bikes, total value $6,000, were reported stolen Jan. 19 from a Gowanda Avenue location where they had been chained to a truck. The chain was cut, police said.

Arrests

A Waynesburg man, 26, was charged with theft Jan. 30 after he allegedly stole more than $800 worth of merchandise from Walmart, 3520 Hudson Drive.

Domestic violence

An Echo Valley Drive man, 62, reported Feb. 1 that he was assaulted by a family member.

Drugs

An East Celesteview Drive woman reported Feb. 2 that someone replaced the medicine inside her prescription capsules with candy sprinkles.

Impersonating a peace officer

Police were looking for a man who flashed a police badge at CVS, 3352 Kent Road, on Jan. 30.

Forgery

A loss prevention employee for Walmart, 3520 Hudson Drive, reported Jan. 23 that a man tried to cash a fraudulent check for $2,000.

Theft

An Osage Street man reported Feb. 2 that someone opened mail sent from his employer and took two W-2 forms.

Arrests

A Clinton man, 25, was charged Jan. 30 with six counts of disseminating material harmful to juveniles, one count of attempting to disseminate matter harmful to juveniles, and one count of importuning.

Missing person

Officers were called Jan. 23 for a report that an elderly female with Alzheimer’s had walked away from her residence. A motorist on State Road found her in a ditch. She was not hurt and was returned home.

Assault

Officers were called Jan. 23 to South Carpenter Road after a man was assaulted on his front porch. Police apprehended and arrested a city, who recently was released from prison, and charged him with assault and criminal trespassing.

Medina

Road rage

A Valley City man was arrested Feb. 4 after a road rage incident on North Court Street. The man broke the window of the other car.

Medina Township

Suspicious vehicle

Officers were called to Pearl Road on Feb. 1 to investigate a report of two men sitting in a Chevy Suburban using a radar to clock passing vehicles. The SUV drove off before officers arrived.

Dispute

Officers were called Jan. 31 to a Medina Road bar after two females began arguing over a bar stool. The complainant was “highly intoxicated and unable to describe other female” so she was advised to keep to herself for the rest of the night.

Montville Township

Suspicious vehicle

Police were called to Hedgewood Drive Feb. 3 after a resident complained that a car keeps driving around the circle. Officers were not able to locate the car.

Wadsworth

Theft

A tow truck driver reported Feb. 2 that he unlocked a vehicle for a Durling Drive woman. She purportedly went inside the apartment to get payment, but instead locked the doors and turned off the lights.

Arrests

A Ravenna man, 52, was charged Jan. 30 with failure to comply with the orders of a peace officer.

Stark County

Jackson Township

Arrests

A homeless man, 25, was charged with felony robbery and criminal damaging when he was arrested Jan. 27 at the Sears store in Belden Village Mall. He is accused of stealing a $130 shop vacuum. Police said he pushed a loss prevention officer and kicked out a glass section of an exit door before being subdued.

Breaking and entering

Police were called to Play It Again Sports on Belden Village Street Northwest to investigate a break-in Jan. 20. Five baseball bats, total value $2,500, were stolen.

Burglary

Jewelry, collectibles and other items, total value $6,900, were reported stolen Jan. 19 from an Emerald Brook Circle Northwest home.

Fraud

A Birkdale Street Northwest resident learned from Premier Bank and Trust on Jan. 12 of unusual activity on his credit card totaling $2,774. A police report indicated several online transactions had been made at Microsoft without permission.

Thefts

Three rings, total value $6,000, were reported stolen Jan. 27 from a safe at a Whippoorwill Street Northwest home.

A township resident told police Jan. 25 that $5,000 worth of white oak and cherry wood had been stolen from an Amherst Road Northwest location.

Lake Township

Arrest

A Summerset Avenue Northwest woman told deputies Jan. 26 that she threatened to kill her husband. She was charged with domestic violence.

North Canton

Burglary

Police investigated a Jan. 21 report of an Applegrove Street Northeast man, who said someone he knows forced his way into his apartment and assaulted him.

Plain Township

Arrests

A Columbus Road Northeast man, 41, was charged with theft and misuse of credit cards, both felonies, Jan. 28. Three credit cards belonging to his father were taken, with charges made at multiple businesses and online, totaling $40,000 over a 120-day period.

An Orchardale Drive Northwest man, 56, was charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary Jan. 23 after he allegedly went the woman’s apartment above his, kicked in the door and barged in with a knife. A report said he grabbed her, took cigarettes and a lighter and went back to his apartment.

Uniontown

Arrests

A Lake Township man, 47, of Limonis Street, was charged with domestic violence Jan. 27 after he allegedly choked his fiancee, slammed her against a car, chased her across the street, knocked her into the snow and grabbed her around the throat before she escaped to a neighbor’s house for help.
