Akron police in 2015 suspected the masked robber who shot and killed a 21-year-old college student at a North Hill pizza shop might have been a woman.
Thursday, more than 1 1/2 years after Zak Husein was killed, police will announce an arrest.
The suspect is already in jail in connection with an unrelated case, police told Beacon Journal news partner News 5 Cleveland. It’s unclear what led Akron detectives to suspect the inmate was connected to Husein’s homicide.
Akron police have scheduled a press conference at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Husein, a University of Akron student from Springfield Township, was working the night shift at Premium New York Style Pizza on Glenwood Avenue in December of 2015 when he was confronted by a robber with a gun.
A security video showed that Husein handed over money from a cash drawer, but the robber shot him anyway.
