Police arrested the cousin of a 2-year-old boy who is accused of taking the child Friday night from Green and going to look for drugs in the Akron area.

Following an Amber Alert and search, the boy was found safe and returned to family.

Police said Olivia Remenyi, 27, of Green, was arrested following a short chase outside a suspected drug house about 9 p.m. in Akron. Initial police reports identified the woman as the boy’s aunt, not his cousin.

Remenyi was charged with kidnapping and child endangering and taken to Summit County Jail.

The series of events started when Remenyi was watching her 2-year-old cousin, Solomon Thompson, at the boy’s home in Green. The boy’s mother gave Remenyi permission to take the boy to a store and return him within the hour, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

But when Remenyi and the boy did not return for hours, family called the sheriff’s office.

Remenyi’s vehicle was tracked by phone to Simmons Court in Akron. Witness information said she left the vehicle on foot with the juvenile.

The sheriff’s office issued an Amber Alert. Following a search by sheriff’s deputies, detectives and Akron police, the boy was found at a suspected drug house, authorities said.

According to the sheriff’s office, Remenyi left the child on a house porch with unnamed people and was arrested after a short chase. The child was treated and evaluated on the scene by the Akron Fire Department and released to his parents.

Authorities said Remenyi told them she took the boy with her to six places in Akron to find drugs. Police said she used drugs in the presence of the boy.
