Police investigating a shooting outside a home in southeast Akron arrested two people after discovering evidence of illegal drug operations at the residence.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the 1000 block of East Archwood Avenue, where the male resident and a friend said they were approached outside by two males wearing horror masks popularized by the Scream movies. One victim said he was pistol-whipped and then shot in the stomach. He was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital, where his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

While investigating the shooting, officers checked the house and observed jars containing marijuana. They obtained a search warrant and found over 200 grams of marijuana, heroin, hypodermic syringes and equipment used to grow marijuana.

Police arrested Nadyne C. Blumer, 25, and Michael J. Hayes, both of East Archwood Avenue. Blumer was charged with cultivating marijuana, trafficking in drugs, possession of heroin, possession of drug instruments and endangering children. Hayes was charged with cultivating marijuana, trafficking in drugs and endangering children. Both were booked into the Summit County Jail.

Two girls, ages 5 and 6, were residing in the house at the time of the incident. They were placed with family members.
